A note from the editor: A couple weeks ago we introduced you to one of our fave wedding planners and discussed the difference between a Planner and Day of Coordinator. This week we are introducing you to the team behind Design the Day. We have had the pleasure of working closely with this talented team. Hiring a full blown planner may not be everyone, which is why a day of coordinator may be the best option for you.
Meet Day of Coordinator, Hannah Strickler
Tell us what your role is with Design The Day?
I am the owner and lead coordinator of Design the Day!
What led you to become a Day of Coordinator?
At the end of the day, it is always about making someone’s vision come to life. Many couples are stuck wondering how they will make all their puzzle pieces fit together to make sure their big day successfully represents the couple equally, and that is what drives me the months leading up to their big day and executing on the day of.
Tell us a little about the process couples can expect to experience when working with you.
Once an inquiry, email, or phone call is made, I will reach out to the couple to schedule an initial consultation, which is always complimentary! The initial consultation is mostly scheduled to get to know the couple (or often just the bride) to see if my services align with their desires for their big day. If the couple decides that they would like to continue with my services, I will then send a contract along with my plan of action. Couples are allowed unlimited emails and phone calls regarding their big day from the moment they book, but I typically enter the process full force 3 months out from their wedding to tie up all loose ends and provide a detailed production schedule!
What is your biggest tip for a couple to consider when scheduling to meet with you?
Be flexible and prepared! As a coordinator, we are often balancing life and work so our schedules may not always align, but I promise I’ll make it work at the end of the day! Regarding preparation, it is so, so important to bring questions for us, regardless of what it may be! I am here as your resource, and I love helping in any way that I can.
What are some things to avoid when a couple is looking for a Wedding Day of Coordinator?
It’s all about connection! I certainly recommend sitting down or talking to a couple different coordinators before you choose one to be sure that you are hiring a coordinator that is what you will need, whether it is regarding their style or personality. For me, I strive to be the calming presence on someone’s big day; someone the couple knows they can count on to execute flawlessly and take on any challenge calmly and professionally; however, I certainly know that some brides and grooms may need that extra boost of energy and pep on their big day!
How far in advance should a couple expect to book your services?
I always say that it is never too early, especially if you are getting married in June, September, and October (the busiest months!), as those are always the dates snagged the quickest! Typically, I suggest 6-12 months out from a couple’s wedding date; this gives me enough time to get to know the couple as well as complete all details I provide for my day-of coordination package!
Is there a memorable moment you had with a couple, that sticks out to you?
There are definitely memories with every couple. For me my favorite moment during every wedding is the look on the bride/groom/s face when they walk in to see their puzzle completed and, of course, how thankful they all are at the end of the day! The hugs, gratefulness, and smiles make every wedding the best day ever!
