Identifying Your Wedding Style and Aesthetic

Style is an undeniable personality trait within each woman. It encapsulates how a woman feels about herself, how she chooses to present herself, and how she feels confident. Style can pertain to more than just fashion, it is interior design, attitude, role models, a lifestyle. Lifestyle icons such as Nancy Meyers, Joanna Gaines, and Ralph Lauren deliver more than just styles, they deliver visions and feelings within their specific works. Finding the style that makes you excited for yourself and your wedding helps accentuate the overall vibe of “you” on your special day.

To better identify your style, look within yourself. What kind of clothes do you choose to wear daily? What colors are present in your house and in your areas of living? Are you a minimalist, or a maximalist? The things we surround ourselves such as friends, music, media, and even where we live with alter our style as well. The best way to identify your style is to name it. What words come to mind when you picture your lifestyle? If you look for 90s style inspiration, basic white tees and jeans, and prefer clean, beige furniture you may consider your style “minimalist.” If you are drawn to lace and frills, lean into your feminine side, are a lover of vintage goods, your style might be referred to as “shabby chic.” Create a mood board of your style and your wedding style. Utilize Pinterest and other forms of media such as magazines, movies and books to visualize your wedding theme. A cohesive wedding is not essential, but just a little bit of extra fun.

Including Special Details

What are your wedding colors? Which flowers are you using in your bouquet? What style and flavor is your cake?  Incorporating your style and “theme” within your wedding is a creative and artistic way of expressing yourself during your special day. Other special details include specific candles, tablecloths, silverware/dinnerware, and invitations. If you’re having a beach wedding, consider incorporating details such as pearls, oysters, and coconuts. If you align with a more vintage eclectic style, consider incorporating film photos, unique dishware, and mismatched furniture.

Other questions to help discover ideas for your style:

Where is your wedding being held?

Where do you live and/or where are you from?

What are the accent colors in your wedding?

What time of year is your wedding?

Do you have any memories from your past you want present in your wedding (ex. Where you attended school, favorite sport, favorite movie)?

Finding Inspiration

While trying to organize and maybe even DIY your wedding may seem intimidating, finding ideas and inspiration doesn’t have to be difficult. In today’s world, the best way to discover new designs and ideas is Pinterest. Create boards to save specific details for your wedding. Additionally, look for inspiration in every day activities. Whether it’s a vintage car on the road, a piece of art at a museum, or even something from your home, finding and gathering inspiration for your wedding is enjoyable and a fantastic creative outlet.
