Wedding Dress Trends

As the weather gets a little cooler and the leaves start to fall we look forward to our next wedding season.  The end of summer and beginning of fall is when we start to see photos of our brides coming in and them stopping by after the wedding to share with us the stories from their special day.  We talk about the honeymoons and the almost mistakes of the wedding day and laugh.  We realize another season of celebration is coming to a close and most of our brides are beginning the “happily ever after.”  For those of us in the bridal business it’s a time where we start to think about our next summer’s bride, the 2014 bride.  What colors will she want, what venues will be most sought after and most importantly what will she wear? It’s an exciting time as we see new trends start to take hold and fresh ideas come forth.

And I have to say we are loving the new trends for the upcoming bride!  Over the last several years bridal designers have been playing with color on wedding dresses.  It started with a deep red that took off then transitioned into other bright colors and landed a few years ago with black details and even brides asking for all black gowns.  I love my little black dresses, but I never felt right putting it on a bride!  This year, however, the designers finally got it right: blush!  Blush has swept the runways and has made it in to details from tiny ribbons sewn through the gown to all over satin underlays.  It’s vintage, it’s romantic and soft and the brides are begging for it.   Sophia’s has everything from ballgowns to mermaids and of course bridesmaids to meet this demand that we absolutely love.

Other timeless looks are being brought back this season with a return to the traditional wedding dress.  Lace has always had a place in bridal.  It takes on new forms every season, but this year they have modernized it with illusion tops, deep V backs and hip band accents to create a perfect shape.  For the first time in a few years we are hearing our brides ask for a full skirt and empire waists again.  We have filled the store with ballgowns that have “secret sparkle” so as you turn or move it catches the light and makes you look like a real princess.  And being in this industry nothing is more fun than to see the tear in a mom’s eye that can only be brought on by her seeing her daughter twirl in the ballgown she always dreamed of.  Simple gowns with emphasis on the accessories is the final trend we love.  Belts, sheer delicate capes and heirloom broaches have made a way in to next season and we can’t wait to see our brides create their unique look by playing with the pieces they find.
