Distance and cultural differences couldn’t stand between these two, when they put their trust in each other and their faith.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
We fell in love in Israel and are from two different countries. Eilir-Wyn is from Wales and I am a good old American girl born and raised in the Midwest. In 2016 we met on a tour in Israel. No sparks flew as my 23 year old self found the 18 year old Welshman, who I could barely understand, to be a bit obnoxious. However over the next year and a half the Lord would build a beautiful friendship that would blossom into love.
HOW HE POPPED THE QUESTION
In February 2018 we realized there was a mutual interest but didn’t want to risk our friendship for something the Lord wasn’t in. So we spent 3 months in prayer seeking His blessing. By May we knew we were blessed. The first two months of our relationship in Jerusalem were delightful. However at the end of June he moved back to Wales to support raise for his second year volunteering in Israel. It was during this time of long distance that the Lord really solidified our relationship and made it clear to us as individuals that we were to marry. So four months in Eilir-Wyn bought a ring of Welsh gold, without me knowing or having any input into the ring, as Welsh tradition stands. Fast forward to November. We have now talked about marriage and know the trip home to Michigan will involve us asking my parents for their blessing. While they give us their blessing I still think the engagement is a bit off in the distance. A week after we return to Israel, we go out to dinner with friends to the Old City of Jerusalem. He takes me to a beautiful overlook just us and drops to his knee. I’m shocked and say “are you serious?” Until I saw the ring he had I truly believed he didn’t have one! I couldn’t believe it. I said yes!
